The Elections System of the Virgin Islands (ESVI) has recently partnered with Civera to unveil a new platform citizens can use to search past election results. Civera prides itself as a company that “provides technology to build a better democracy by making civic information more available to everyday people, and to improve government transparency and accountability.” The product is called ElectionStats and it is a “publishing platform and a searchable data warehouse of historic elections, ballot questions, and voter turnout statistics.” The tool is now publicly available at https://electionarchive.vivote.gov/.
“I am excited to announce our partnership with Civera to provide a database the public can use to access past election results. Whether you are a student, potential candidate for public office, media, or voter, you can now use this database to search past election results more easily,” said Supervisor of Elections, Caroline F. Fawkes.
The tool allows individuals to explore past election data through a query box where it can filter by year, office, and election type. Past election results displayed include both candidates and ballot questions, as well as voter turnout data. Primary source documents from ESVI records are attached to all data viewed so individuals can verify the information. Individuals can also compile aggregate data by setting a multi-year search range. This data can be easily exported into a .csv file so individuals can conduct their own data analysis.
“With the addition of this tool, this help increase the organization efficiency, diminish costly record requests, and increase voter confidence of our electoral system,” continued Fawkes.
Election results since 2010 are now available. Prior elections can be found, https://vivote.gov/previous-elections/.Â
