U.S. Virgin Islands Elections System Collaborates with the British Virgin Islands Election System!
“Supervisor of Elections, Caroline Fawkes was invited by the Election Systems and Software Contractor to visit the British Virgin Islands on April 30 – May 4, 2018. Mrs. Fawkes accompanied Mrs. Sheri Menges, Sales Support Specialist and Mr. Wil Wesley, Business Development Manager to Tortola. The team met with Mr. David D. Archer, Jr. – Deputy Government, Mrs. Carolyn Stoutt Igwe, Permanent Secretary (ag), Ms. Colene Penn, Communications Officer and Ms. Juliette Penn, Supervisor of Election. The purpose of the Supervisor of Elections visit, was to share her experience with the use of DS 200 Voting Scanner/Tabulator Machine over the years and discussed the Absentee Voting process. Demonstration of the DS 200 was conducted, resulting in a productive visit. A follow up visit will be scheduled in a few months. The goal of the visit is to provide the Election Supervisor of the BVI with a sample ballot along with the demonstration of the Auto Mark Machine culminating with many public demonstrations. The goal of Ms. Penn, Supervisor of Elections is to reduce the timeline of obtaining the final results on election night. Mrs. Fawkes reached out to Ms. Penn during the 2014 and 2016 Elections, inviting her to observe one of our elections. However, due to unforeseen circumstances, none of the visits occurred. We are hopeful, this visit will take place during the 2018 Elections.
